Remembrance Day 2017
Inspired by the poppy wave on Plymouth Hoe, our MKC Heroes wanted to make our own clay poppy wave to pay our respects for this year's Remembrance Day.
We worked closely with Lipson Community Academy (whom we couldn't have made the poppies without), and our in house artist Soraya Williams. Every child at High View made their own clay poppy, we also invited members of our community in so they could make a poppy if they wanted to.
We welcomed lots of distinguished guests from the Royal British Legion, MKC, Army, Navy, Air Force and RAF, Local Councillors, School Governors and Lipson Community Academy. Padre Darren Middleton from Two Nine Commando also joined us so that we could remember those who sacrificed so much for us. After our assembly, we had a minutes silence by our poppy wave.
BBC Spotlight also came to see our assembly and made a short video of how we remembered those who have fallen.
As you know, every child has been involved in creating the High View Poppy Wave, either putting the poppies onto the wave, or making a clay poppy. Our site manager, Paul Hancock has worked tirelessly constructing our poppy wave.
We sold the poppies we had made, some even ended up as far as Australia! In memory of her father Major C J Ward, Mrs Ingram doubled our donation and we were very proud to present a cheque for £1281.50 to Carole Arnold for The Royal British Legion.
Thank you all for your contributions and for those who have sacrificed so much.
